By Bay City News Service

One person was found dead at an Oakland home today (Saturday) following a single-alarm fire in a bathroom, according to a fire official.

The fire at 2383 Thackeray Drive (about three blocks from Shepherd Canyon Park in the Oakland hills) was reported at 4:30 p.m., according to Battalion Chief Adrian Sheppard.

The single-alarm fire was limited to the bathroom of the single-family home, where it appears to have started, and controlled within five minutes, Sheppard said.

A man was found dead inside the bathroom when firefighters arrived on the scene, but Sheppard said it is unclear at this point whether he died due to smoke inhalation or to a medical condition.

There were no firefighter injuries.

The fire's cause remains under investigation.
