Police Blotter: Assault, Wind Damage, Suspicious Mom, Fireworks at Cemetery

Also an SUV vs. bicycle hit-and-run — fortunately with no injuries — and a stolen bike.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on Sept. 30 through noon, Oct. 4. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, SEPT. 30

Assault — A Mountain Avenue resident reported being assaulted by a building contractor about 3:20 p.m. The contractor was cited.

In the street — An anonymous caller reported a man standing in the middle of Rose Avenue, near Grand Avenue, about 5:40 p.m. Police determined that the man was lost and looking for Harrison Street.

Suspicious circumstances — A caller reported a small silver sedan parked in front of their home for about 15 minutes shortly after 8 p.m. The caller phoned police again a few minutes later to report that the suspicious people were his or her mother and a friend.

TUESDAY, OCT. 1

SUV vs. bike — A cyclist reported that en route to Oakland, he was hit by a silver SUV near the corner of Moraga and Highland avenues about 1:45 p.m. The cyclist told police that although he fell off his bike, he was not injured and did not wish to make a formal report.

Fireworks — Oakland police received multiple calls about possible gunshots in the vicinity of Ramona, Pleasant Valley and Piedmont avenues about 1030 p.m. A Piedmont police officer checked it out and determined the now was caused by fireworks, possibly at Mountain View Cemetery.

THURSDAY, OCT. 3

Attempted auto theft — Someone tried to steal a pickup truck parked on Hillside Avenue, damaging the ignition.

Lost dog — A stray black-and-white dog, possibly a French bulldog mix, was picked up on Crocker Avenue about 4 p.m. and taken to a veterinary hospital for overnight observation.

Wind damage and alarms — High winds Thursday evening and early Friday morning brought down a PG&E transformer and several trees and apparently set off a number of burglar alarms and some flickering lights. Fallen trees damaged vehicles on Sandringham Road and Magnolia Avenue.

FRIDAY, OCT. 4

Stolen bike — A bicycle was reported stolen from a garage on Lakeview Avenue.

Stray dog — A stray boxer was taken to the Berkeley Animal Shelter by an animal control officer.
