Police Blotter: Attempted Burglaries, Field Use Violations Reported

Incidents reported to Piedmont Police Dec. 13 – Dec. 19

MONDAY, DEC. 13

Dead Deer Observed – A dead deer was reported to police at 2:05 p.m.

TUESDAY, DEC. 14

Purse Snatched – Police checked the area of Oakland and Howard avenues following a purse snatch that was reported at 12:30 p.m. The suspect was last seen going westbound on Grand.

Hit-And-Run – At 9:59 a.m., a caller reported a hit-and-run at Grand and Oakland avenues that had occurred the previous day.

Person Reported as Suspicious – A man wearing a blue down jacket was seen fiddling with electrical cords on the first block of Monte Avenue at 12:48 a.m.

Injured Mole Rescued – A mole was transferred to a veterinarian after it was reported injured at 4:31 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 15

Blower Breaks Rules – A gas leaf blower was reported to be in use in violation of a city ban on the 100 block of Lake Avenue at 6:19 p.m.

Solicitatiors Called In – A man and woman were reported soliciting on the 1100 block of Harvard Road at 2:29 p.m.

Mole Bites – A mole bite was reported on the 200 block of Sunnyside Avenue at 8:57 a.m.

THURSDAY, DEC. 16

Attempted Burglary Suspected – It was reported at 3:56 p.m. that an attempt had apparently been made to break into a residence on the 300 block of El Cerrito Avenue sometime between noon and 3:30 p.m., as evidenced by pry marks on the front door.

Possible Burglary Attempt Reported –  A caller from the 1100 block of Harvard Road said damage to his backdoor was believed to have been the result of a recent burglary attempt.

Wallet Found – At 3:15 p.m., a man reported finding a women's wallet containing an ID and credit cards.

Bicyclist Reports Accident – At 3:43 p.m., a 14-year-old Piedmont boy riding a bicycle confessed to hitting the side mirror of a vehicle at Magnolia and Hillside avenues. The boy was not injured.

FRIDAY, DEC. 17

Vehicle Stolen and Recovered – At 9:21 a.m., a man reported that a car was stolen from a driveway on the first block of Monticello Avenue sometime the previous night. The vehicle was later found and returned to the owner.

Vehicle Backs into Another – At it 6:08 p.m., it was reported that a vehicle backed into another vehicle at Nallie Avenue and Maxwelton Road.

Dog Barking – A neighbor from the 1500 block of Oakland Avenue told police at 7:11 p.m. that a dog had been barking outside for five hours. Police found that the dog had only barked when there was a knock on the front door.

SATURDAY, DEC. 18

Vehicle Returned to Owner – A vehicle that had been stolen in Oakland was found and returned to the owner at 1:55 a.m.

Car Keys Found – Two sets of car keys were found on the sidewalk at 8:38 a.m.

Dog Running Loose – A dog was returned to its owner after it was reported running loose at 12:56 p.m.

SUNDAY, DEC. 19

Tree Blocks Road – At 8:51 a.m., it was reported that a was blocking Mountain Avenue. The felling of the timber also knocked down a street lamp. In addition, at noon, it was reported that a tree had fallen and hit a car.

Adults Shooed from Field – At 9:17 a.m., it was reported that a group of adults were being asked to leave a sports field at Piedmont High School. In addition, at least two calls were made from one person about non-residents playing at Linda Beach Playfield at 12:47 p.m.

Possible Gunshot Heard – At 11:51 a.m., a possible gunshot was reported on the first block of Wildwood Avenue. A nearby gas station employee said he heard a loud bang, but didn't think it was a gunshot.
