A burglar broke into a home in the 600 block of Moraga Avenue sometime between midnight and 4:30 p.m. on June 22, PPD Detective George Phifer said. The intruder apparently pulled on a kitchen window until the lock broke, than climbed through the window and later left the same way. Inside the home, the intruder rummaged through drawers and took a laptop computer, Phifer said.
MONDAY, JUNE 18
Disturbance — A bystander was alarmed when she saw a juvenile being handcuffed in the parking lot of about 4:40 p.m. Police said the handcuffing was part of an intervention authorized by the father of the youth, who is entering a rehabilitation program.
Vandalism — A resident of the 200 block of Wildwood Avenue reported just after 9 p.m. that four juveniles in a black Jeep had "egged" his neighbor's car.
TUESDAY, JUNE 19
Property non-destruction — A Crest Road resident inquired about turning in two air rifles for destruction, but changed her mind. Later in the week she changed her mind again and delivered the air rifles to police for disposal.
Vandalism — A King Avenue resident reported that someone threw eggs at her home.
Auto theft — A Seaview Avenue resident reported about 3:30 p.m. that his Mercedes sedan had been stolen.
Extra patrol — A Hillside Avenue resdient who lost a purse and keys in an Oakland robbery asked police for extra patrols by his residence.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20
Power outage — A falling tree limb brought down power lines in the 200 block of Magnolia Avenue a little after 5 p.m. PG&E was notified. At 7:25 p.m., a neighbor called to complain about PG&E using heavy equipment after hours to solve the problem.
Non-stolen vehicle — A Highland Way resident reported about 8:50 p.m. that her BMW had been stolen. Turns out she had forgotten where she parked the car.
THURSDAY, JUNE 21
Single vehicle accident — A 76-year-old woman hit a light pole in the 1500 block of Grand Avenue about 2:50 p.m. The driver told police she veered too close to the curb, overcorrected and hit the pole, police said. She was treated for head pain and a cut above her right eye. PG&E was called to repair the pole.
Reptile report — A Blair Avenue resident reported finding a large snake skin in her yard.
FRIDAY, JUNE 22
Stolen vehicle — An ATV was stolen from an Arroyo Avenue garage, a caller reported to police at 8:09 p.m. The theft took place several days earlier.
Suspicious circumstances — Noise in the kitchen and the family dog's barking awakened an Inverleith Terrace resident shortly after midnight. The culprit turned out to be the refrigerator, which had spilled ice from the ice maker onto the kitchen floor.
Take a gander at this — A caller reported a large goose in the street at the intersection of Ricardo and Arroyo avenues just before 11 a.m.
Fraud — A Waldo Avenue resident reported being the victim of identity theft.
Wee beastie — A Winsor Avenue resident asked for an animal control officer to dispose of a deceased mouse.
SATURDAY, JUNE 23
Exploding transformer — PG&E was called to cope after a Cambridge Avenue resident heard a loud noise and saw smoke coming from a transformer just before 9:30 a.m.
