Police Blotter: Burglars Hit Four Houses in Two Days

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log, Dec. 19 – Dec. 26. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, DEC. 19

House ransacked – Residents of a home on the 70 block of La Salle Avenue found their house ransacked when they returned home at 12:41 p.m. Police said their garage door had been left open.

TUESDAY, DEC. 20

Basement door and window broken – Between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., someone broke the basement door and window at a residence on the 1600 block of Grand Avenue. There was nothing reported stolen.

House window pried open – At 3:04 p.m., a resident reported that a window in the back of a house on the 900 block of Moraga Avenue had been pried open.

Another house ransacked – A housesitter for a home on the 100 block of Cambridge Way reported that when she went to the house at 4:54 p.m., she found the front and back doors open and the house ransacked.

Car passenger almost hit by thrown cup – At 10:45 p.m. on the first block of Caperton Avenue, a cup was thrown out of a silver sports utility vehicle being driven by a juvenile with a juvenile passenger. The cup almost hit a passenger in another car, police said.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 21

Man tries to cash fraudulent check – A man tried to cash a fraudulent check at 4:03 p.m. at the Bank of America on the 300 block of Highland Avenue. Witnesses said he left in a brown minivan occupied by four people.

Unknown man on porch – A resident of the 900 block of Rose Avenue said he came home at 7:47 p.m. and found a man sitting on his front porch. When the resident approached, the man took off on a bicycle. The resident later found a woman’s purse stuffed in the bushes.

THURSDAY, DEC. 22

Bicycle stolen from garage – A man’s yellow Bianchi Grizzly mountain bike was stolen from a garage on the 300 block of Scenic Avenue sometime during the night.

FRIDAY, DEC. 23

Briefcase stolen – About 9 a.m. a briefcase was stolen from the porch of a home on the 100 block of Estates Drive. The home's residents told police a new silver Honda Civic pulled into the driveway and a man got out, took the briefcase and drove off.

Car window broken – Someone broke a window of a car parked on the 200 block of Hillside Avenue during the night. It is unknown if anything was stolen, police said. Someone also broke into a vehicle parked on the 100 block of Lake Avenue the same night.
 
SATURDAY, DEC. 24

Water main breaks – A water main at the corner of Cambrian St. and St. James Drive broke in the morning and was reported to police at 7:37 a.m. East Bay Municipal Utility District workers fixed the problem.

Toyota stolen – A dark gray 2004 Toyota Sienna was stolen from the 300 block of Wildwood Avenue sometime during the night.

Holiday lights stolen – Outdoor holiday lights were stolen from a house on the 60 block of Arroyo Avenue during the night.

SUNDAY, DEC. 25

Man walks into traffic – A elderly man wearing a black cardigan was seen walking in and out of traffic on the corner of Moraga Avenue and Monticello Avenue at 12:21 a.m. He had left the area when police arrived.
