Police Blotter: Burglars Strike, Tree Falls on Home

Incidents reported to Piedmont Police Feb. 14-Feb. 21.

MONDAY, FEB. 14

Home Burglarized – At 3:40 p.m., a woman from the first block of Fairview Avenue reported discovering that her home had been burglarized. The burglary took place sometime after 10 a.m. on Feb. 12  

Gas Leaf Blower in Use – A gas leaf blower was reportedly in use on the 100 block of Woodland Avenue at 12:05 p.m.

TUESDAY, FEB. 15

Window Broken, Purse Taken – A woman reported that the window of a Toyota Rav4 had been smashed and a black purse taken from the vehicle on the 100 block of Lake Avenue sometime between 5:19 p.m. and 5:34 p.m. A case for a laptop computer was also taken.

Package Swiped – At 1:09 p.m., a woman reported that a package had been removed from her porch on the 800 block of Oakland Avenue at some time in the previous hour.

Construction Site Broken Into – At 8:05 a.m., it was reported that a construction site had been broken into. Extra patrols were requested as the contractor felt that the suspects could return.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 16

Tree Falls on Home – At 11:37 a.m., it was reported that a large tree had fallen and struck a house on the 100 block of Alta Avenue. It was also reported that a tree was leaning against wires on the 100 block of Scenic Avenue.

Car Rifled, Garage Door Opener Stolen – A car was rifled through and a garage door opener was stolen from the 100 block of Wildwood Gardens Avenue, according to a report made at 2:09 p.m.

Window Smashed – At 7:43 a.m., it was reported that the window of a blue Subaru had been smashed near the intersection of Tyson Circle and La Salle Avenue.

Prescription Drugs Found in Front of Home – At 5:15 p.m., it was reported that a package containing prescription drugs was found in front of a home.

THURSDAY, FEB. 17

Security Check Sought After Purse Snatching – A woman who had her purse snatched on Piedmont Avenue asked for a security check at her home on the 200 block of Sunnyside Avenue at 9:27 a.m.

Car Rifled Through and License Plates Stolen – At 11:23 a.m., it was reported that a car had been rifled through on the first block of Craig Avenue. At 2:17 p.m., it was reported that license plates had been taken from a vehicle on the first block of Blair Avenue.

Roadway Flooded – At 12:24 p.m., flooding was reported at Oakland and Sunnyside Avenue.

Black Purse Found – A purse was returned to its owner after it was reported sitting against a tree on the first block of Oakmont Avenue at 1:57 p.m.

FRIDAY, FEB. 18

Woman Arrested for Welfare Fraud – At 9:29 a.m., a 36-year-old woman was arrested during a traffic stop on the 400 block of Linda Avenue on an outstanding $45,000 warrant for welfare fraud.

Rock Slide Blocks Roadway – Public Works was called to the scene after a rock slide was reported blocking the 100 block of Somerset Road at 3:40 p.m.

License Plate Stolen – At 7:55 p.m., a woman from the 200 block of Sea View Drive reported that a license plate had been taken off her vehicle.

SATURDAY, FEB. 19

Credit Cards Used Without Permission – At 8:55 a.m., it was reported that multiple credit cards had been used without authorization.

Underage Drinking Reported – At 10:34 p.m., a woman reported that she had picked up her daughter at a party where minors were drinking alcohol.

Large Tree Blocks Roadway – At 2:11 p.m., it was reported that a large tree was blocking the first block of Lexford Road.

SUNDAY, FEB. 20

Window Broken, Second Home Burglarized – At midnight, a man reported finding a broken window on a side door after returning home from vacation on the 100 block of Palm Drive. In addition, at 8:50 p.m. it was reported that a home on the 100 block of Lake Avenue had been burglarized sometime after 5 p.m.

Radio Taken from Two Vehicles, a Third Broken Into – At 12:10 p.m., it was reported that a radio had been taken from an unlocked vehicle on the 500 block of Boulevard Way. A stereo was reportedly taken from another vehicle at 3:52 p.m. At 6:11 p.m., it was reported that a third vehicle had been broken into on the 500 block of Crofton Avenue.

Transient Arrested for Trespassing – At 3:16 a.m., a man found sleeping at Corpus Christi School was arrested for trespassing and for being in possession of drugs.

Items Stolen, Security Check Sought – At 12:13 p.m., a woman requested a security check at her home on the first block of Prospect Road after her purse, keys and wallet were stolen in Oakland.

MONDAY, FEB. 21

Truck Knocks Down Sign – At 9:43 a.m., it was reported that a truck delivering drywall knocked down a 15-mph speed limit sign on the first block of Littlewood Drive.
