Police Blotter: Car Wasn't Stolen, It Was Towed After Neighbor's Complaint

Also — DUI and warrant arrests, garage burglary, parking in a handicapped space without a placard.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on June 24 through noon, June 28. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

In addition to the incidents noted below, Piedmont police issued about a dozen traffic citations and responded to at least 17 security system alerts that — fortunately — turned out to be false alarms.

MONDAY, JUNE 24

Warrant arrest — Demetrius Raiford, 36, was cited and released after a traffic stop in the 2200 block of Mountain Avenue at 1:49 p.m. Police said Raiford had an outstanding arrest warrant from Oakland. His car was towed.

TUESDAY, JUNE 25

Hit and run — A Scenic Avenue resident reported at 7:29 a.m. that someone hit her parked vehicle the previous night.

Auto recovery — Piedmont police located a 1990 Toyota that had been reported stolen in Oakland. The car was found in the 600 block of Mandana Boulevard at 9:51 a.m.

Parking complaint — Police issued a citation for a car improperly parked in a handicapped space by Witter Field at 4:12 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26

Towed, not stolen — A Monticello Avenue resident reported a Toyota sedan stolen overnight. Police determined that the car had been towed about 11 p.m. Tuesday evening after another Monticello resident reported that it was blocking a driveway.

Garage burglary — A Wildwood Gardens resident reported that someone broke into the garage over the weekend.

THURSDAY, JUNE 27

DUI arrest — Police arrested one person on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a report at 6:48 p.m. that a Pontiac sedan was blocking traffic near the corner of Oakland and Highland avenues and the driver "appeared to be sleeping."
