Police Blotter: Embezzlement Arrest, Bike Thefts, Missing Youth Located at Park

Police also recovered a vehicle reported stolen from a BART parking lot.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on May 13 through noon, May 17. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, MAY 13

Identity theft — At 4:22 p.m., a Wildwood Gardens resident reported being the victim of identity theft.

Fraud — A Highland Avenue resident reported possible fraud in an business that is part of his deceased son's estate.

Intoxicated teens — Two intoxicated juveniles created a disturbance on Jean Avenue near the Morcom Rose Garden about 10:45 p.m. Police determined that no medical care was needed and gave the youths courtesy rides to their Piedmont homes.

TUESDAY, MAY 145,

Recovered vehicle — At 2:30 a.m., on Rose Avenue, police located a vehicle reported stolen by BART police. The vehicle was towed and a message left for the owner. 

No license plates? — A resident of the 100 block of Magnolia Avenue reported that maids employed by a neighbor drive a car with no license plates. Police determined that it is a new vehicle with paper plates and temporary registration on the windshield.

Suspicious walker — Shortly before 5:30 p.m., a Maxwelton Road resident reported an African American male wearing shorts but no shirt, and with a turban on his head, was walking in the area. Police were unable to locate anyone matching that description.

Scooter found — A scooter was found in bushes along Highland Avenue at 6:24 p.m.

Water in the street — A possible water main break was reported on Mackinnon Place at 8:24 p.m. when a resident noticed 'water coming up from the middle of the street." EBMUD was notified.

Stolen bike — A bicycle was reported stolen from an unlocked garage on Hampton Road at 9:02 p.m.

Missing youth found — A 14-year-old boy was reported missing at 9:08 p.m. His family said he was last seen at Piedmont Middle School about 4 p.m. Police located the youth in Piedmont Park and canceled a statewide missing persons bulletin.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 15

Auto burglary — An Estates Drive resident reported a bicycle stolen overnight from a locked vehicle.

Bike theft — A Wyngaard Avenue resident reported the theft of a bicycle.

FRIDAY, MAY 17

Embezzlement — Police executed a search warrant in East Oakland at 6:53 a.m. and arrested one person on suspicion of an embezzlement which occurred in Piedmont.
