Police Blotter: Theft at McMullen Boutique

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log Aug. 6-13. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Someone stole a laptop computer and cellphone from the McMullen Boutique, 1235 Grand Ave., about 3 p.m. on Aug. 10. The items belonged to the store and were sitting on a couch before they disappeared. A group of two men and one woman who were in the fashion boutique at the time of the theft are possible suspects.

MONDAY, AUG. 6

Identity theft — A Sea View Avenue resident reported being the victim of identity theft.

Oops, wrong address — A Boulevard Way resident reported at 4:13 p.m. that a man with a clipboard had rung her doorbell, then went into the back yard. It turns out he was a contractor who had the address wrong.

Fallen branch — A branch from a street tree fell in the 100 block of Sandringham Road, landing partly on the sidewalk and partly on private property, a caller reported shortly after 8 p.m.

Juveniles congregate — A group of more than 10 juveniles had gathered in the 100 block of Calvert Court, a caller told police at 11:44 p.m.

TUESDAY, AUG. 7

Defunct skunk — An anonymous caller reported a skunk in a neighbor's yard at 11:39 a.m. but didn't give a location. Two minutes later, a Monticello Avenue resident reported a dead skunk in a fountain in her back yard. An animal control officer picked up the deceased animal.

Stolen scooter — Two adult males stole a scooter from a driveway in the 100 block of Palm Court shortly before noon. The victim was able to provide descriptions, and police located the suspects at the corner of Wildwood and Grand avenues. The scooter was restored to its owner.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 8

Stolen chair — A chair worth $300 was stolen from a front porch in the first block of Greenbank Avenue, a caller told police at 9:20 a.m.

Petty theft — Items were taken from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 200 block of Sunnyside Avenue. The theft was reported at 10:44 a.m.

THURSDAY, AUG. 9

Vehicle burglary — A resident of the first block of Pacific Avenue reported that someone rifled through two locked vehicles the previous night and took about $40 and a pocket knife. The victim did not want to file a formal report.

Identity theft — A resident of the 1800 block of Trestle Glen Road reported unauthorized charges on his credit card.

FRIDAY, AUG. 10

Weapons turned in — A Harvard Road resident turned in guns at the police department for destruction.

Stolen motorcycle — A motorcycle was taken from the 200 block of Moraga Avenue sometime between 11 p.m. and 10 a.m.

SATURDAY, AUG. 11

DUI — A driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a traffic stop at Guilford Road and Highland Avenue at 1:17 a.m. The driver was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility in Oakland.

Not that portable — Someone knocked over a Port-A-Potty in the first block of Bellevue Avenue, and it was partially blocking the street a little before 5 a.m. A patrol officer managed to move the item in question to the side of the road.

Stolen bike — A bicycle was stolen from an open garage in the 200 block of Ramona Avenue, and the thief also rifled through a vehicle parked there.

Water main break — An EBMUD crew responded to a small water main break in the 500 block of Boulevard Way shortly after 3 p.m.

SUNDAY, AUG. 12

Stolen vehicle — An Accura Legend was reported stolen from the 500 block of Hampton Road.

Minor flooding on sidewalk — A Public Works Department crew responded to a minor water line break in the first block of Portsmouth Road just before 6 p.m.

MONDAY, AUG. 13

Home again — A local resident reported finding a small stray dog — possibly a Chihuahua — near the corner of York Drive and Arroyo Avenue about 9:20 a.m. The runaway and its owner were successfully reunited.

Tree limb down — A truck knocked down a street tree branch in the 100 block of Lake Avenue about 10:10 a.m. A Public Works crew responded.

Stolen vehicle — A Nissan Pathfinder was stolen from the first block of Sandringham Road during the night.
