Police Blotter: Thieves Steal Five Cars, Burglars Attempt Break-Ins, Vandals Tip Over Port-a-Potty

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log, Nov. 21–Nov. 28. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, NOV. 21

Burglary attempted – A window near the rear door of a house located on the 1500 block of Oakland Avenue was reportedly broken sometime before 6:45 p.m. It appeared that someone entered the house through the door but nothing was reported stolen.

TUESDAY, NOV. 22

Bicycle found – A black Specialized bike was found on the 100 block of Nova Drive at 9:02 a.m.

Dental instruments stolen from car – A magnifying scope and dental instruments were reported stolen from an unlocked car that was parked in a resident’s open garage on the 100 block of Pala Avenue. The resident believes that the theft occurred either Nov. 12 or 13.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 23

Car stolen from garage – A blue Honda Ridgeline car was stolen out of a home garage on the 100 block of Greenbank Avenue sometime during the night.

Car stolen during the day – Piedmont police responded to a call about a car that was stolen from the 200 block of Scenic Avenue sometime between 8:56 and 9:26 a.m.

Car stolen with key left inside – At 9:38 a.m. a resident called to say her blue four-door Saturn had been stolen from the 100 block of Bonita Avenue. She had left the ignition key inside the vehicle.

Stolen vehicle found – At 10:20 a.m., Piedmont police found a 2003 Honda Civic on the 2000 block of Oakland Avenue that had been reported stolen in Contra Costa County.

Burglars break into house, then run away – At 10:39 a.m. burglars broke a kitchen window and attempted to enter a house on the 200 block of St. James Drive. When they saw residents in the house, the burglars fled and drove off in a gold-colored Lexus, according to the police report. Piedmont police officers located the Lexus and pursued it into Oakland, where they lost sight of the car.

Resident finds his stolen car – A Piedmont resident was walking his dog on Howard Avenue and Cambridge Way at 11:57 a.m. and found his car, which had been stolen earlier from Greenbank Avenue.

Unknown man offers ride to child – A 55 to 60-year-old man wearing glasses and with thin white hair and a white beard, driving a small white car, pulled up by a child walking on the 700 block of Highland Avenue around 3:30 p.m. and offered him a ride, police said. When the boy declined, the man told the child he looked familiar and asked his name, according to police. 

Another attempted burglary – At 7:32 p.m., house sitters in the 100 block of El Cerrito Avenue discovered a small pane in the rear door broken in an apparent attempt to enter the house. No one gained entry to the residence, police said.

Stolen items seen on eBay – At 7:56 p.m., a victim of a home burglary in the first block of Nace Avenue called Piedmont police to say that some of the stolen items were being sold on eBay.

FRIDAY, NOV. 25

Sewage spews into street – The fire department responded to a call about a sewage pipe spilling its contents onto the roadway in the first block of Crocker Avenue at 7:47 a.m. Public Works came to fix the problem.

Jewelry stolen from home – At 4:24 p.m. a Piedmont resident called police to say that checks and jewelry had been stolen from a residence on the 100 block of Lexford Road.

SATURDAY, NOV. 26

Volvo stolen – A black Volvo was reported stolen from Linda Avenue near Rose Avenue at 1:37 p.m.

Teens smash pumpkins – A resident reported seeing two teens climbing up a wall and smashing a pumpkin on the 100 block of Requa Road at 3:02 p.m.

Car stolen out of driveway – A red Honda CRV was reported stolen from a resident’s driveway on the 100 block of Olive Avenue sometime over the Thanksgiving holiday.

SUNDAY, NOV. 27

Stolen Volvo found – The black Volvo reported stolen from Linda Avenue on Nov. 26 was found on Kingston Avenue near Linda Avenue at 4:58 a.m.

Port-a-Potty repeatedly tipped over – A resident reported to police that their port-a-potty on the first block of Wildwood Avenue had been tipped over sometime within the last two nights. This was at least the fifth time it has happened. The police said they’d send out extra patrosl.

Stolen Saturn found – The blue four-door Saturn stolen on Nov. 23 was  found by California Highway Patrol in Santa Rosa at 4:27 p.m.

MONDAY, NOV. 28

Tools swiped from Beach Elementary – Sometime over the weekend, tools and copper wire were stolen from a constructions site at Beach Elementary School, 100 Lake Avenue.
