Police Blotter: Grand Theft at a Garage Sale; Teen Party Broken Up

The following Incidents were reported to Piedmont Police May 23-30. Information was supplied by the police department and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, MAY 23

Would-be Bike Thief Leaves Evidence—Someone tried to steal a locked bicycle from a bike rack at Corpus Christi School, according to a report made at 3:15 p.m. A cutting device was left on the bike lock.

TUESDAY, MAY 24

DUI Arrest—At 2:41 a.m., a 29-year-old Oakland woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence near the intersection of Walker and Crofton avenues.

Vehicle Recovered—A stolen vehicle was found on the 100 block of Wildwood Avenue at 2:57 p.m.

Non-Injury Accident—A vehicle accident with no injuries was reported at Oakland and Grand avenues at 5:36 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 25

Solicitor Asks About Children—A man was reportedly asking if there school children at a home on the first block of Lorita Avenue at 1:03 p.m. Police found that the man had a valid business and solicitor’s permit.

Burglary Suspects Arrested—Police caught up with two of four suspects in an attempted burglary after receiving a call at 1:53 p.m. from a resident of Fairview Avenue who reported witnessing what police at his neighbor's home across the street.

Suspicious Person Report Follows Car Alarm—At 8:12 p.m., a resident reported that an unfamiliar man in his early 20s was seen leaving the area after a car alarm sounded on the first block of Pacific Avenue.

THURSDAY, MAY 26

Thief Takes Pickup Truck —At 7:06 a.m., a man from the 100 block of Moraga Avenue reported that a 1993 white Chevy pickup had been stolen.

Credit Card Misused—At 3:11 p.m., a resident from the 1100 block of Oakland Avenue reported misuse of a credit card.

Dog Rescued—A dog was freed after it was reportedly trapped on the first block of Crest Road at 4:15 p.m.

FRIDAY, MAY 27

Vehicle Parts Go Missing—A man from the 1100 block of Warfield Avenue reported at 8:27 a.m. that part of the exhaust system of his vehicle was removed sometime Wednesday night.

Two Students Caught with Marijuana—Principal Randy Booker reported at 9:52 a.m. that a student had been found in possession of marijuana at Piedmont High School. A second report of a student in possession of marijuana was made at the school at 1:55 p.m.

Kids Light Up—At 10:54 a.m., it was reported that six juveniles were smoking cigarettes near the tennis courts on Hillside Avenue. The juveniles were gone when police arrived.

Bike Disappears from Yard—A boy’s bicycle was gone from a yard on the 100 block of Lake Avenue sometime after May 16, according to a report made at 12:24 p.m.

SATURDAY, MAY 28

Man Eyes Vehicles—At 1:25 a.m., a resident reported seeing a man on Fairview Avenue walking slowly while appearing to be scoping vehicles. The man, who was described as wearing a plaid hooded jacket, was gone when police arrived.

Meth Arrest—A 52-year-old Oakland man was arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine at Lakeshore Avenue and Mandana Boulevard at 2:38 a.m. Police made contact with the man while he was walking in the area and determined that he was on probation.

Police Break Up Teen Party—A party on the first block of Sandringham Road was broken up after it was reported that juveniles were seen walking into the home with alcohol at 10:06 p.m. About 15 to 20 kids were reportedly in the garage of the home. After the party was shut down, police contacted parents who lived at the address, and they returned home.

SUNDAY, MAY 29

Drunk Driving Patrol Yields Arrest—At 2:27 a.m Sunday, May 29, police arrested a 33-year-old Oakland maat Grand Avenue and Mandana Boulevard on suspicion of driving under the influence. At 11:15 p.m. Sunday, police arrested a 44-year-old Pleasanton man on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Vehicle Break-In Attempted—At 11:10 a.m., a man from the 100 block of Wildwood Gardens Avenue reported that someone had attempted to break into his car the previous night between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. He reported that the lock to his trunk had been damaged and a piece of it had been removed.

Grand Theft at a Garage Sale—A 59-year-old Oakland man was arrested on suspicion of grand theft after it was reported that he stole items from inside a home during a garage sale on the first block of Abbott Way at 1:01 p.m. Police later arrested the man and recovered the property.

MONDAY, MAY 30

DUI Arrest Made—Police arrested a 34-year-old Oakland woman on suspicion of driving under the influence at 1:49 a.m. at Piedmont Avenue and West MacArthur Boulevard.
