Police Blotter: Home Burglary, Stolen Cellphone & Backpack, Bird in House

The Piedmont police log from noon March 18 to midnight March 21 includes a burglarized home on Balfour Avenue, a hit and run accident, three reports of identity theft, and thefts of a backpack, cellphone and possibly mail.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter below were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log for three and a half days between noon on March 18 and midnight on March 21. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, MARCH 18

Identity theft – A resident of the 1000 block of Oakland Avenue reported a case of identity theft.

Suspicious circumstances – A woman in the 100 block of Estates Drive reported that a man in work gloves and vest keeps ringing her bell and knocking. The man was trying to return a son's wallet.

Hit & run – A man in the first block of Jerome Avenue reported that a hit and run accident occurred to his vehicle on March 11 about 7:40 p.m.

Cellphone stolen – A woman in the 200 block of Mountain Avenue reported that her son's cell phone was stolen.

TUESDAY, MARCH 19

Bird in house – At 10:49 a.m., a woman in the first block of Lakeview Avenue reported that a bird was in her house. The bird was released.

Identity theft – A woman in the first block of Olive Avenue reported a case of identity theft.

Backpack theft – At 7 p.m., a woman in the first block of Fairview Avenue in Piedmont reported that a black backpack was taken from a bench out front.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20

Mail theft? – A woman in the first block of Sandringham Place reported she thinks someone stole mail from her box. She hasn't spoken to the mail carrier.

Identity theft – A person came to the police station about 7:09 p.m. to report a case of identity theft.

THURSDAY, MARCH 21

Security check – A woman in the first block of Greenbank Avenue reported that sometime before 10:30 a.m. or so, a man with big hair and wearing a brown coat with "US Army" on the sleeve and light blue pants said "he could do whatever he wants US Army" when the woman asked him if he needs anything. The woman was advised a beat officer that the man is a citizen.

Security check – A woman in the first block of Gardens Avenue reported that someone has gone through her jewelry boxes.

Residential burglary – At 9:35 p.m., a resident of in 4000 block of Balfour Avenue reported coming home and finding the home burglarized. (Outside assist.)
