Police Blotter: Minor Drives Drunk; Ambulance Called Over Pot Cookies

Incidents reported to Piedmont PD July 4-11. Information was supplied by the police department and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, JULY 4

Underage Drinking – A 20-year-old Piedmont man was released to his parents after being detained for drinking whiskey on the 700 block of Highland Avenue at 2:15 p.m.

Fireworks Reported – At 8:57 p.m., a caller from the 800 block of Magnolia Avenue reported hearing fireworks at Witter Field. A second call regarding fireworks came in a few minutes later from Park Way and Monte Avenue on the other side of town.

TUESDAY, JULY 5

Stinking Pile Left on Front Seat – At 8:45 a.m., a man from the 300 block of Wildwood Avenue reported that someone had a left a laptop computer in his car and had defecated in the front seat. The vehicle may have been unlocked as there were no signs of forced entry.

Email Hacked – At 10:33 a.m., a woman from the 100 block of Wildwood Avenue reported that her email account had been hacked.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 6

Explosion Believed To Be Fireworks – Callers from the 300 block of Wildwood Avenue reported hearing loud explosions and fireworks in the area at 12:21 a.m. and 8:35 p.m. At 10:28 p.m., a caller from the same neighborhood reported hearing another bang. Officers responding to the area met a group of girls who said they'd seen a group of boys set off fireworks at Witter Field and run.

Something Goes 'Boom' at PMS: At 10:39 p.m., a custodian reported hearing a loud crash and then seeing kids running across middle school grounds and into the park nearby.

THURSDAY, JULY 7

Tree Falls On Car – At 6:45 a.m., a woman from the 100 block of Lexford Road reported that a tree had fallen on her car.

Pot Cookies Strike – Paramedics responded following a report that someone on the 300 block of Bonita Ave had consumed marijuana-laced cookies at 1:27 p.m.

FRIDAY, JULY 8

Home Burglarized – At 1:40 p.m., a woman from the first block of Selborne Drive reported that her home had been burglarized while she had been gone for four hours.

Man Going Through Dumpsters – A 65-year-old Oakland man was cited for traffic warrants after he was seen rifling through trash on the 700 block of Magnolia Avenue.

SATURDAY, JULY 9

Medicine Stolen – At 4:51 a.m., a man from the 100 block of Scenic Avenue reported that prescription medicine was missing from his home after he had had people over.

Juveniles Lighting Fireworks – At 10:20 p.m., a caller from the 400 block of El Cerrito Avenue reported that a group of juveniles were lighting fireworks in the parking lot near the El Cerrito Gate entrance to Witter Field. Police were unable to locate anyone.

SUNDAY, JULY 10

Home Burglarized – At 12:17 p.m., a man reported a home burglary on the 1200 block of Oakland Avenue.

Convicted Burglar Arrested – A 54-year-old Oakland man on probation for burglary was arrested shortly he reportedly tried to enter a home on the 1100 block of Winsor Ave. The resident said the man had jiggled the door at 2:07 p.m. and then asked if the he needed a gardener. The man was later seen in a backyard on Park View Avenue. Police located the man on Winsor Avenue and arrested him on suspicion of giving false identification.

MONDAY, JULY 11

Minor Arrested For Drunk Driving – At 3:04 a.m., police arrested an underage Piedmont resident on suspicion of drunk driving near the intersection of Hampton and Glen Alpine roads.
