FRIDAY, DEC. 28
Suspicious circumstances — A caller reported a man wearing a mask on the tennis courts at Hampton Field, at the corner of Hampton Road and La Salle Avenue, about 4:45 p.m. Police determined that the man was playing tennis in the cold and wearing a ski mask because of the low temperature.
Defibulator defibbed — Someone broke into the heart defibulator at Witter Field and left it lying in pieces on the ground, beeping plaintively, about 5:15 p.m. Police collected the pieces and and the Piedmont Fire Department was called to check out the defibulator and make sure it was still in working order.
Noise disturbance — A Sunnyside Avenue resident reported hearing a man yelling in the area for about 15 minutes shortly before midnight. When police checked, they found a neighbor was practicing karate.
SATURDAY, DEC. 29
Fallen branch — a tree branch fell into the roadway in the 100 block of Manor Drive, a resident reported at 8:26 a.m. A police officer moved the branch to the side of the road and notified the Public Works Department.
Residential burglary — A burglar apparently broke into a home in the 100 block of Estates Drive while the residents were out of town. Police found the front door of the home open when they responded to the home owner's request to check the house about 12:30 p.m.
SUNDAY, DEC. 30
Public drinking — An Artuna Avenue resident reported a man in his 30s drinking a beer in public at 4:24 p.m. Police were unable to locate the beer quaffer.
Bike rider arrested — One person was arrested after being stopped and questioned by police while riding a bicycle near Grand Avenue and Cambridge Way just before 10 p.m. Details of the arrest were not immediately available.
Warrant arrest — One person was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant and was taken into custody after Piedmont police searched a vehicle near the corner of Richmond Avenue and West MacArthur Boulevard, Oakland (about one block from Piedmont Avenue) about 10:25 p.m.
MONDAY, DEC. 31
Stolen auto — A Honda Accord was reported stolen from the first block of Oakmont Avenue.
Stolen vehicle recovered — Police located a vehicle stolen from Oakland while checking out a possible burglary attempt on Greenbank Avenue about 6 a.m.
