Police Blotter: Prowler Arrest, Home Burglary, Animal Bites

The Piedmont police blotter from noon March 25 through March 28 includes the arrest of a prowler, a residential burglary, smashed car windows, two animal bites, marijuana smoking in public and a passport stolen 40 years ago.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter below were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log for three and a half days from noon on March 25 through March 28. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Monday, March 25

Racial graffiti – A woman in the first block of Pacific Avenue reported that someone put racial graffiti on a pole. An officer advised her that graffiti can be wiped off and Public Works was notified.

Dog bite – At 3:33 p.m., an Oakland woman reported being bitten, with the skin broken, by a stray dog picked up at McMullen Boutique on Grand Avenue.

Residential burglary – At 5:16 p.m., a man in the 900 block of Kingston Avenue reported a home burglary sometime during the day that day, with entry gained through a side window that is left open.

Passport lost 40 years ago – At 5:22 p.m., a man in the first block of Dudley Avenue reported that he lost his passport in 1973.

Suspicious circumstance – At 6:08 p.m., a caller in the 300 block of Lafayette reported a man in a new black Lexus parked around the corner and then parked on Lafayette "possibly casing." The man works for the District Attorney's office.

Prowler arrested – At 9:58 p.m., police received a call from a woman in the 100 block of Ricardo Avenue reporting a man "in back yard looking around." An officer responded to the scene, arrested the man and took him to the North County Jail in Oakland. Jackhammer theft – A basement door was found kicked in at a construction site in the first block of Mesa Avenue. A jackhammer was taken.

Tuesday, March 26 

Auto vandalism – At 12:01 a.m., a man in the 200 block of El Cerrito Avenue reported that a window on a vehicle in a driveway had just been smashed.

Auto burglary – At 1:57 p.m., a man in the 200 block of Pala Avenue reported that a GPS and sunglasses were stolen from a vehicle.

Wednesday, March 27

Animal bite – At 8:57 a.m., a man in the 100 block of McClaren Avenue reported an animal bite.

Non-injury accident – At 4:08 p.m., non-injury accident was reported in the 300 block of Highland Avenue.

Prowlers – At 12:09 p.m., a caller in the 100 block of Palm Drive reported two young men in hoodies in her backyard, who left on foot on Wildwood.

Thursday, March 28

Auto vandalism – At 7:16 p.m., a woman in the 300 block of Olive Avenue reported the driver side window of a vehicle had been broken.

Smoking marijuana – At 8:07 p.m., a caller at Hillside and Magnolia avenues reported a male and female sitting on the sidewalk near the Middle School smoking marijuana.
