Police Blotter: Stolen Bikes, Cars and Clothes, Arrests for DUI, Burglary, Forgery

And then there was the topless sunbather in Piedmont Park...

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on June 10 through noon, June 14. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, JUNE 10

Graffiti — An anonymous caller reported graffiti on the "school side" of the PG&E substation at 408 Linda Ave. at 3:16 p.m.

Reckless driving — A caller reported two male juveniles speeding in an Acura near Magnolia and Highland avenues at 4:17 p.m. and provided the license plate number of the vehicle. The parents of the young driver were advised of the complaint by police.

TUESDAY, JUNE 11

Burglary arrests — Police arrested three men on suspicion of burglary about 11:45 a.m. in the 600 block of Blair Avenue. For details, see "Police Arrest 3 Suspected Burglars After Resident Reports 'Suspicious Knock on the Door'."

Suspicious circumstances — A Moraga Avenue resident reported seeing "someone grab someone" on Moraga about 11:35 a.m., then called back five minutes later to say a woman had jumped from a moving vehicle and was walking up Moraga. Police were unable to locate the woman who jumped out of the vehicle.

Bad driver — A caller reported a man driving a VW recklessly in the 100 block of Requa Avenue about 5:15 p.m

ID theft — A local resident reported being the victim of identity theft at 7:10 p.m.

Stolen auto — A Honda Accord was stolen from the 800 block of Magnolia Avenue between 7 and 7:21 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12

Stolen bikes — A resident of the 100 block of Requa Road reported the theft of two bicycles at 9:54 a.m.

THURSDAY, JUNE 13

DUI arrest — A driver was stopped by Piedmont police in the 5200 block of Park Boulevard at 1:35 a.m., given a field sobriety test and then arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. 

Stolen clothing? — A caller reported seeing a large pile of clothing with sales tags still attached at the corner of La Salle Avenue and St. James Drive at 7:42 a.m. Public Works staff picked up the clothing.

Loud argument — A caller reported that a man and a woman were having a heated argument in the 1600 block of Grand Avenue about 1:15 p.m. A police officer located the pair, determined that the dispute was verbal only and sent them on their way about 20 minutes later.

Wallet found — A good citizen found a lost wallet and turned it into Piedmont police about 4:20 p.m.

Stolen truck recovered — Police located a pickup truck that had been reported stolen from San Pablo on Fairview Avenue about 5:10 p.m. The vehicle was towed and a message left for the registered owner.

Deceased deer — An animal control officer removed the body of a dead deer from the roadway near Zion Lutheran Church on Park Boulevard shortly before midnight.

FRIDAY, JUNE 14

Warrant arrest — A Lake Avenue resident reported seeing a man wearing a dark sweatshirt walk up a neighbor's driveway about 6 a.m., come out a few minutes later and walk down Olive Avenue toward Oakland Avenue. Police located the man near the corner of Olive and Sunnyside and determined he had an outstanding $145,000 warrant in connection with forgery and possession of stolen property charges. The man was arrested and taken to the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility in Oakland. 

Vehicle theft arrest — One person was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft after  being questioned and searched by police on Indian Road abut 10:30 a.m. Police said the silver Toyota had not yet been reported stolen by its owner.

Topless sunbather — A female sunbathing topless in Piedmont Park was advised to cover up after a complaint from a caller about 12:45 p.m.
