Police Blotter: Stolen Purses, Possible Sewer Repair Scam, 'Blood-Curdling' Scream

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on Jan. 6 through noon, Jan. 10. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, JAN. 6

Petty theft — Mirrors were stolen from a vehicle parked on Jerome Avenue.

TUESDAY, JAN. 7

Suspicious circumstances — A Sea View Avenue resident reported that $500 and jewelry were missing from his home, possibly taken by a man who posed s a construction worker and said he needed access to the house in connection with a nearby sewer break. The suspicious man came to the house about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday; the missing items were reported the following day.

THURSDAY, JAN. 9

Suspicious circumstances — A woman was detained after reportedly banging on the back and front doors of a home on Park View Avenue about 1 a.m.

Residential burglary — A burglar stole a bicycle from a detached garage on Waldo Avenue and also rifled through a vehicle parked there.

Stolen purse — A Piedmont resident reported that her purse was stolen while she was shopping at a CVS pharmacy in Oakland. She was advised that she would need to report the theft to the Oakland Police Department but that Piedmont police would provide some extra patrol by her home.

Auto burglary — A purse was stolen from a car parked on Olive Avenue about 9:30 p.m.

Unnerving noise — A Mountain Avenue resident reported hearing a "blood-curdling scream" about 11:25 p.m. Officers were unable to locate the source of the sound.

FRIDAY, JAN. 10

No parking — A half dozen vehicles received citations for parking in a posted street sweeping area on Kingston Avenue.
