Police Blotter: Suspicious Man Near Beach Playfield, Burglary, Hit and Run Accidents

The weekend crime report.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on July 12 through noon, July 15. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

FRIDAY, JULY 12

Funny money — An El Cerrito Avenue resident reported receiving a counterfeit $5 bill.

Noise complaint — A Pacific Avenue resident complained at 7:12 p.m. of driveway construction work being done after hours. Police advised the workers of allowable times for construction.

Home burglary — A Rose Avenue resident reported at 10:52 p.m. that their home was burglarized sometime during the day.

Possible DUI — Oakland police notified the Piedmont PD that a blue Volkswagen Passat hit a parked vehicle on Sunnyhills Road, then drove off toward Piedmont without stopping. Piedmont police were not able to locate the car responsible for the hit-and-run accident.

SATURDAY, JULY 13

Hit and run — An Oakmont Avenue resident reported that someone hit his parked vehicle during the night.

Suspicious circumstances — A local resident reported a white male in his late 20s or 30s sitting by himself near the Linda Beach Playfield, who asked a 13-year-old about his lost ball. The man, who was wearing khaki shorts, a navy blue T-shirt and sunglasses, left the area when the youngster's mother approached him. The incident happened shortly before 8 p.m. Police were unable to locate the man.

Found wallet — An Oakland resident turned in a lost wallet found on Grand Avenue. Police were unable to locate the owner immediately.

Fallen branch — A large tree limb was reported as blocking Hampton Road near La Salle Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. A police officer moved the branch and notified the city's public works staff to remove it.

SUNDAY, JULY 14

Found bicycle — A Tyson Circle resident reported finding an abandoned bike and air pump next to her driveway.

Grand theft — Golf clubs and cash were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on Trestle Glen Road.

Bike theft — A bicycle was reported stolen from a garage on Maxwelton Road.

Broken window — A woman reported that someone smashed a driver's side window of her rented vehicle while it was parked on Moraga Avenue.

MONDAY, JULY 15

Theft — A FasTrak pass and possibly other items were stolen from vehicle parked in an unlocked garage on Somerset Road.
