Police Blotter: Arrests, Construction Site Burglary, Suspicious Swivel Chair Sitter

Crime reports, July 22-25.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on July 22 through noon, July 26. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, JULY 22

Arrest — Police investigating possible erratic behavior on Grand Avenue about noon ended up arresting a 51-year-old man on two outstanding warrants and suspicion of a Health & Safety Code violation. (H&S violations are often, but not always, drug-related.) 

Arrest after traffic stop — After a vehicle stop near Hampton Avenue and Sandringham Road about 9 p.m., one person was taken to Summit Hospital, received a blood alcohol test and was then placed under arrest and transported to the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility in Oakland.

TUESDAY, JULY 23

Fraud — A Trestle Glen Road resident reported being the victim of fraud.

Burglary — A theft from a residential construction site on Crest Road, apparently over the weekend, was reported to police shortly before 2 p.m.

Hit and run — A Piedmont resident reported that their vehicle was rear-ended on Moraga Avenue about 3:50 p.m. by a dark sedan driven by a male in his 20s. The sedan driver failed to stop and provide insurance information.

Scam — A Grand Avenue resident reported being the victim of an Internet scam.

Suspicious circumstances — A Piedmont resident reported a man sitting in a swivel chair in the driveway of a Sea View Avenue home at 10:35 p.m. Police checked and determined the man was a security guard on duty.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 24

Arrest — One person was arrested on suspicion of a probation violation, then taken to the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility in Oakland after a bicycle stop on Grand Avenue at 3:39 a.m. Oakland police assisted with the arrest.

Auto burglary — A Greenbank Avenue resident reported that someone rifled through a parked and locked vehicle sometime during the past three days.

Arrest — One person was arrested on suspicion of a probation violation ater a traffic stop by Piedmont police near the corner of Broadway and Mather Street about 8:30 p.m.

THURSDAY, JULY 25

Road rage — Police issued a citation after a "road rage" argument was reported near Oakland and Grand avenues about 4:45 p.m. No weapon was involved, police said.
