Police Look for Shoe Thieves Driving Stolen Car

Incidents reported to the Piedmont Police Department Aug. 8–Aug. 15. Information was supplied by the police department and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, AUG. 8

CDs Taken from Vehicle – At 10:36 a.m., a woman from the 300 block of Blair Avenue reported that over the weekend, someone rifled through her unlocked Volvo and took CDs.

Woman Arrested – At 11:26 p.m., police arrested a 23-year-old Oakland woman at Oakland and Santa Clara avenues on suspicion of drunk driving.

TUESDAY, AUG. 9

Home Burglarized – At 9:41 p.m., a caller from the first block of Nace Avenue reported personal checks had been taken during a home burglary.

Football Field Scorched – A section of the football field at Piedmont High School was apparently scorched by fireworks, according to a report made at 9:26 a.m.  

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 10

Three Women Look for Hose – At 11:25 a.m., it was reported that three women walked to the side of a home on the 300 block of Magnolia Avenue. When approached by a resident, the women said they were looking for a hose after their car had overheated. The women were later interviewed on Waldo Avenue by a police officer but were not arrested.

Dog Hit By Car – A dog was hit by a car at Oakland and San Carlos avenues, according to a report made at 9:28 a.m. A second caller said the dog was last seen on Ricardo Avenue.

Vehicle Hit – At 10:33 a.m., a woman from the 100 block of La Salle Avenue reported that her car had been hit sometime after 4:30 p.m. the previous day.

THURSDAY, AUG. 11

Shoe Thieves Use Stolen Car – Piedmont police were called after it was reported at 1 p.m. that four men and a woman had stolen shoes from Footlocker on Lakeshore Avenue using a vehicle stolen out of Hayward. Police were unable to locate the suspects.

Hit-And-Run Accident – A hit-and-run accident was reported on the 200 block of Greenbank Avenue at 10:27 p.m.

Loud Party Reported – A loud party was reported at 12:09 a.m. on the 600 block of Moraga Avenue. The noise was abated after police contacted the celebrants.

FRIDAY, AUG. 12

Three Cars Broken Into – At 7:38 a.m., a caller from the first block of Valant Place reported that three cars on the street had been broken into.

Attempt Made to Enter Home – At 8:51 p.m., a woman from the first block of Sharon Avenue reported that she believed someone attempted to push open her front door, but was thwarted by the dead bolt.

SATURDAY, AUG. 13

Woman Reports Robbery Attempt – At 9:37 p.m., a woman reported that a man had stuck something in her back in an apparent robbery attempt at Moraga and Estrella avenues. However, the alleged robber didn’t say anything to the woman and there was no evidence that a crime had taken place, police said.

Teen Party Broken Up – Police broke up a party on the 200 block of Highland Avenue after a group of teenagers were reported cursing and making loud noises at 12:12 a.m. An adult was home and no alcohol was served, according to reports.

SUNDAY, AUG. 14

Police Make Warrant Arrests – At 10:04 p.m., police arrested a 19-year-old Berkeley man and a 21-year-old Oakland man on misdemeanor warrants for their arrests at Grand and Lake Park avenues. The men were passengers in a vehicle that was stopped for having a brake light out.

MONDAY, AUG. 15

Vehicle Stolen – At 8:50 a.m., a woman from the 1500 block of Grand Avenue reported that her car had been stolen sometime after 9 p.m. the previous evening.
