Investigators believe a man shot and killed Wednesday evening in the Grand Lake area was specifically targeted by the shooter, an Oakland Police Department spokesman said Thursday morning.
Police identified the dead man on Thursday afternoon as Charles Edwards, 38, of Oakland.
The shooting did not involve a robbery, the spokesman said. The victim had some criminal history, he said.
One or more gunmen fled after the shooting, police said. No suspects are in custody.
Police responded to a large apartment complex at 888 Vermont St. (about a block from Mandana Boulevard between Grand and Lakeshore avenues) at 6:34 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26. The victim was found in a parked car suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
