Three suspects who led police on a lengthy chase from Hayward that ended in a one-car crash on Interstate Highway 580 near Park Boulevard in Oakland early Monday have been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, evading a peace officer and other offenses, Hayward police said.

The three men, all Hayward residents, were scheduled to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court in Hayward Tuesday afternoon.

Hayward Police Lt. Mark Stuart said the chase began shortly after midnight on Sunday when Hayward police spotted a silver 2000 Toyota Camry being driven erratically in the area of West Tennyson Road and Tyrrell Avenue and began to follow it and the driver sped away.

olice pursued the car as it went on Interstate Highway 880 into Oakland. The driver then took I-980 to I-580 and crashed near Park Bouelvard on eastbound I-580, Stuart said.

The car matched the description of a vehicle sought in a shooting that was reported at 2:52 p.m. Sunday near West Tennyson Road and Calaroga Avenue in Hayward, Stuart said.

In the shooting, the occupants of the suspect vehicle were chasing another vehicle and fired shots at it, he said. One of those shots struck an unintended target — a person sitting in another car, Stuart said. The victim's injuries weren't life-threatening, he said.

After the crash on I-580 early Monday, the car's three occupants were arrested and four weapons were collected from the vehicle, Stuart said.

The vehicle had been stolen from San Jose, according to Stuart.

He said police are still trying to determine if the suspects were involved in the shooting Sunday afternoon.
