Advisory from the Walnut Creek Police Department, Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2:15 p.m.:
Road Closure: Main Street between Mt. Diablo and Botelho and Olympic between Locust St. and Main St. are closed due to a water main break.
Update, 3:40 p.m.:
Bay City News--Crews from the East Bay Municipal Utility District are working to repair a 6-inch water main valve that broke on a busy street in downtown Walnut Creek this morning, creating water damage in some stores and slowing traffic in the area, an EBMUD spokeswoman said.
EBMUD workers were already in the area conducting routine maintenance shortly after 8 a.m. today when the pipe broke near the corner of South Main Street and Olympic Boulevard, district spokeswoman Andrea Pook said. She said the valve break was not caused by the maintenance work.
A handful of businesses in the area were without water this afternoon because of the pipe break, and a few nearby stores sustained some water damage, Pook said. EBMUD risk management teams were responding to those businesses to minimize the damage, she said.
Pook said that crews expect to have the pipe repaired by this evening, but that until that time, drivers in the area should expect some delays.
