AC Transit Union Delivering Strike Notice to Board
A work stoppage by AC Transit's drivers and mechanics could begin as early as 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday.

An Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District employee union is delivering a strike notice to the transit agency's board of directors at its meeting in Oakland this afternoon (Monday).
Amalgamated Transit Union Local 192, which represents 1,625 mechanics and bus operators, was to notify the board at noon about a possible work stoppage beginning as soon as 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.
The board is meeting at AC Transit offices on the second floor at 1600 Franklin St.
The strike notice stems from ongoing negotiations for a labor new contract after the workers' previous contract expired at the end of June. Union members had threatened to strike starting July 1 but temporarily extended their contract and negotiations continued.
"We're hopeful we will be able to come to some sort of resolution without disruption to service," AC Transit spokesman Clarence Johnson said this morning.
"It's slow but steady progress in the talks," he said.
He said a strike "would be catastrophic."
At today's meeting, union members will be asking the board to direct management to bargain in good faith.
