Council: Risk Management Plan Needs Changes

A new risk management policy for major capital improvement projects needs tweaking, the Piedmont City Council decided this week after hearing from Piedmont League of Women Voters representatives and other speakers at the April 1 council meeting.

A new risk management policy designed to limit city problems and liabilities with major capital improvement projects was returned to city staff for changes after it had an airing at this week's Piedmont City Council meeting.

The new policy comes in the wake of the city's exposure to unpaid bills and legal action after two major capital projects — the Blair Park sports field proposal and the Piedmont Hills undergrounding debacle — hit costly snags.

Several speakers at Monday's meeting took issue with details of the proposed policy and urged council members to make changes before adopting the plan, according to an article in this week's Piedmonter.
