Former Swim Club President Announces Council Bid

Tim Rood is the first candidate to jump into the race.

Two City Council seats will be on the ballot in February as Mayor Dean Barbieri terms out and Councilwoman Margaret Fujioka faces reelection. Tim Rood wants one of those seats.

Rood, an urban planner and Piedmont resident since 2002, is running on a platform of "sound financial planning" and facilitating a "robust public process". In the "Issues" section of his new campaign website, the candidate references the for financial reforms and advocates for increased public dialogue around major issues in Piedmont.

Rood recently made waves as President of the Piedmont Swim Club, pressing the city for a new long-term lease of the municipal pool with no cash rent. Rood has decried a lack of transparency around the council's , which resulted in the city's take over of the facility as of July 1 and an from the city's general fund.

The deadline for council candidates to file nomination papers is Nov. 11. Early voting starts Jan. 9 and Election Day is Feb. 7.
