In Photos: The 'New' Piedmont City Council

Well over 100 people attended Tuesday night's swearing-in ceremony for Margaret Fujioka, re-elected to the the city council, and newly elected council member Bob McBain

Margaret Fujioka, re-elected to the Piedmont City Council in the Feb. 7 municipal election, and Bob McBain, elected to the council for a first term, were sworn into office Tuesday night by City Clerk John Tulloch.

The ceremony drew well over 100 people to Piedmont Community Hall.

In its first actions, the newly constituted council selected outgoing Vice Mayor John Chiang as the city's new mayor for a two-year term and Margaret Fujioka as vice mayor.

Outgoing Mayor Dean Barbieri reminisced about his eight years on the council and was feted with commendations and gifts from the state Senate, state Assembly, Alameda County Board of Supervisors, City of Piedmont staff and new Mayor John Chiang.

Following the ceremony – officially part of a city council meeting – Chiang and his wife hosted a reception at the hall for those who attended the swearing-in.
