New Aquatics Director: From Cal to Cruise Ship to ... Piedmont

Rebecca Toussaint oversaw the aquatics facilities at Cal before touring the world as a recreation director with Royal Caribbean.

Rebecca Toussaint, Piedmont's new aquatics coordinator and community pool manager, kicked off her first day on the job last week running swim lessons and meeting parents and swimmers, according to Mark Delventhal, the city's recreation director.

Toussaint's first day coincided with the first day of summer, Friday, June 21, Delventhal said.

Toussaint began her full-time career as aquatics director at UC Berkeley, overseeing four facilities, Delventhal said.

Three years later she became the recreation coordinator for the City of Newark, CA, where she managed a year-round indoor aquatics facility.

After five years with Newark, Toussaint decided to travel the world and became a recreation and open deck manager with Royal Caribbean International, where she  supervised 50 crew members.

Most recently, Toussant comes to Piedmont from the Western Athletic Clubs, where she was the aquatic and youth program director.

Toussaint was president of the Bay Area Public Pool Operators Association in 2009. She is certified by the American Red Cross as a lifeguard instructor trainer and water safety instructor trainer.

Away from the pool, Toussaint has an eight-month-old puppy named Reno Nevada and a brand-new Schwinn bicycle, Delventhal said.
