New Community Pool Plan Limits Sunday Access

Community pool access on Sundays would be restricted to holders of annual and seasonal passes in a new proposal going before the city council tonight, June 6. There's a budget hearing, too.

Community pool fees, an updated Housing Element for the city's General Plan and a public hearing on the proposed budget for fiscal year 2011-12 are on the agenda for tonight's Piedmont City Council meeting.

The public portion of the meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at City Council Chambers, 120 Vista Ave., following a closed session at 6:30 p.m. You may view the agenda here.

There's one notable change in the pool fees proposal — a staff recommendation to limit pool use on Sundays to holders of annual and seasonal passes. Day use, also called gate or walk-up use, would be limited to Monday through Saturday. Read about the new proposal here.

The Housing Element changes, dealing mainly with multi-family and low-income housing, have been the subject of considerable back-and-forth between city staff and the California Department of Housing and Community Development. Read the background and the alternatives that the council will consider here.

Tonight's meeting also includes the first of two public hearings on the city budget and the levies of the municipal services tax and the municipal sewer tax. The second hearing is scheduled for June 20. Finance Director Mark Bichsel is recommending increases in both taxes. See the details here.
