No More Election Letters, Please

The Piedmont Patch mailbox is now officially closed to letters supporting or endorsing candidates on the Feb. 7 ballot

Thank you to everyone who has written "letters to the editor" supporting candidates for the city council and school board in the Feb. 7 Piedmont Municipal Election and for or against Measure A, the sewer tax surcharge on the same ballot. It's been a remarkably lively, voluminous and civilized expression of a variety of opinions, and we're delighted that Piedmont Patch could serve as a forum.

However, no more campaign-related letters will be accepted. Letters received before 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, will be published on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 3-5. (There are several still in the "queue" awaiting publication.) Then we'll take a break from letters on Monday and on Election Day.

We continue to welcome your letters to the editor on other subjects and your post-election letters and comments.

Factoid: Nearly 1 percent of Piedmont's adult population submitted an election-related letter to the editor to Piedmont Patch between December 2011 and today. (More precisely, it's about 9/10 of 1 percent.)

Procedural: We've published letters in the order received and have edited them only for typos and spelling and occasionally for "Patch style" -- things like the way dates and times are are displayed. If you submitted a letter to the editor before Wednesday, Feb. 1 and it has not appeared, please forward a copy of your original letter to the editor (so the original date shows) to dixiemjordan@gmail.com by 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, and we will publish it over the weekend. You can check our Piedmont Election 2012 page to see if your letter has already appeared.

If you have a letter you would like to be considered for publication, please e-mail dixiemjordan@gmail.com. Letters should be no longer than 600 words and will not be posted anonymously. Please include a daytime phone number with your email in case we need to contact you for verification or questions. Your phone number will not be published.
