Park Commission to View Design for Blair Park Landscaping

Thursday's Park Commission meeting will include a chance for public comment on the plan.

An initial schematic design and estimated costs for landscaping at Blair Park will be presented to the Piedmont Park Commission Thursday by representatives of the consulting firm hired to develop the plan, Restoration Design Group of Berkeley.

Members of the public will have an opportunity to comment on the design during a public hearing at the meeting, which is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall council chambers, 120 Vista Ave.

Among highlights of the design:

—Remove all non-native trees from the oak-studded rear portion of the park.

—Remove all Monterey pines from the front portion of the park bordering Moraga Avenue.

—Create a rough grass meadow of native grasses in the front portion. Potentially provide irrigation while the meadow is being established.

—Improve drainage in several areas.

—Allow off-leash dog use.

You may see a larger version of the design (shown above) on the City of Piedmont website here.

The plan is part of a settlement agreement between the Friends of Moraga Canyon (FOMC) and the City of Piedmont reached last year.

The FOMC had filed a lawsuit challenging the city's handling of environmental concerns about a controversial proposed sports field for the park, which is located on Moraga Avenue.

The complete agenda for Thursday's meeting is available on the City of Piedmont website here.
