Piedmont Administrator Authorizes Library Check for Oakland
Payment of $350,471 covers fiscal 2009-10; next negotiations will be for 2010-11.
There was a news development Thursday in Piedmont big enough to merit two clichés: The check’s in the mail, and it’s time to turn the page.
With email confirmation from the city of Oakland that it had agreed to $350,471 as payment in full from Piedmont for library services in fiscal year 2009-2010, Piedmont City Administrator Geoff Grote said Thursday, “I have authorized payment of this amount immediately.”
Now Grote can focus on negotiating with Oakland for an annual payment for 2010-11, y. Oakland is seeking an increase fee from Piedmont.

Piedmont has no municipal library. Piedmont has had a longstanding policy of paying Oakland for library services so that Piedmont residents may use the libraries for free.
A 10-year run of contracts ended in 2007-08 with Piedmont paying $350,471. Disputes about a potential increase in a successor contract dragged on until now.
