Plans Nixed for April 25 Moraga Canyon Meeting

There had been a tentative City Council meeting scheduled that day devoted to sports field project.

If you had circled April 25 on your calendar for a possible City Council meeting on the Moraga Canyon Sports Fields project, you should have used pencil.

Because it’s time for the eraser.

The City of Piedmont has issued a press release announcing the cancellation of the tentative April 25 meeting to address the plan to build a sports field, parking and walkway in canyonside Blair Park. Since the special meeting was to be devoted to the sports field, there will be no meeting that day. The regular meeting of the council is scheduled for next Monday, April 18.

The city is awaiting a full set of drawings and cost estimates of traffic safety alternatives for Moraga Avenue from the Piedmont Recreational Facilities Organization, the non-profit community group planning and financing the Blair Park field. The council had voted for the project March 21-22 contingent upon PRFO suggesting traffic alternatives beyond a pedestrian-activated flashing light at a Moraga Avenue crosswalk.

Once the city has the drawings and estimates, it will prepare reports of environmental and legal analysis for the City Council. Those will be available on the city Web site 10 days before the as-yet unscheduled meeting, said City Administrator Geoff Grote.
