Snow Park at 19th and Harrison streets in Oakland could become the home of a dog play area that was rejected for Astro Park at Grand and Lakeshore avenues, according to media reports.
The Oakland Tribune reports that the city's Parks and Recreation Commission has given its OK to planning for an off-leash dog area as part of a planned renovation at the park.
So far, there's relatively little opposition to the proposed site, the Tribune says.
Snow Park is a 4.2-acre open space opposite Lake Merritt that includes a putting green and mini-course. The dog area would occupy about a half-acre.
City staff hope to bring more detailed plans to the commission in April.
