Veteran Recreation Commissioners are Retiring

Panel will choose a new leader at next meeting: April 20.

The Piedmont Recreation Commission has bid farewell to two veteran stalwarts: Leesy Taggart and Robert McBain, who are retiring.

McBain chaired the commission in his last meeting March 16 asfrom the Piedmont Swim Club. Taggart had preceded McBain in chairing the commission.

“We will miss the camaraderie and wisdom,” said Commissioner Dick Hunt. “We have lost a big piece of what made us function really well.”

Recreation Director Mark Delventhal gave thanks for years of dedication. “You’ve inspired the staff to do better and do better and do better,” he said.

“Six years have gone by so fast,” said McBain. “I appreciate everyone’s support and interest.”

Taggart called the commission “a fabulous place to jump in to public service.”

The City Council on Monday is interviewing candidates for various commissions. The Recreation Commission will vote for a new chairperson at its April 20 meeting.
