Homes With Good Walkability Rates For Sale in Piedmont

Check out this house that is within walking distance of shopping areas and other facilities

The obesity epidemic in America has been well-documented.

The Centers for Disease Control estimates two-thirds of adults in the United States are overweight and half of overweight people are obese (one-third of the adult population overall).

A new study has the latest figures on obesity rates in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. They are both below the national numbers.

Diet and exercise are obvious solutions to this problem. Walking is considered one of the best ways to get daily exercise because it's easy to do, it can be done by most age groups and it's relatively injury-free.

With that in mind, we thought we'd take a look this week at homes for sale that are within walking distance of shopping centers, schools, parks and other facilities.

Overall, Piedmont has a walkability rating from walkscore.com of 35. The site describes the city as "car dependent" with errands from most homes requiring an automobile.

However, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom home at 209 Magnolia Ave. has a walkability rating of 58. It's listed at $895,000 and is described as being in a "somewhat walkable" neighborhood that is close to Piedmont schools.

Do you know of any other homes on the market that are in a good location for walking. Let us know in the comments.
