$14.5 Million Bond Measure for Alan Harvey Theater Renovation May Be on June Ballot

Although the theater is earthquake-safe, it badly needs modernization, school officials said.

Piedmont Unified School District's school board has given a tentative thumbs up to placing a $14.5 bond measure on the June 3, 2014 ballot to raise funds for renovating the Alan harvey Theater at Piedmont High School, according to an article on insidebayarea.com.

Assistant Superintendent Randy Booker said the theater is seismically sound but badly in need of modernization, the article reports.

The work would mean relocating student productions and some classes while construction is under way.

The bond measure would require approval of 55 percent of Piedmont voters. Bonds would be paid off in 13 years, the article says.

The Board of Education will look at draft language for the ballot measure and detailed costs for the project at its Nov. 13 meeting.
