All Piedmont Parents and Community Members are invited to attend the Every 15 Minutes Parent and Community Education Night on Tuesday, October 11 at 7:00 pm in the Alan Harvey Theatre. Since the Every 15 Minutes events conducted on October 3 and 4th was not open to parents, a special parent education evening is planned, open to all parents of elementary, middle and high school as well as members of the greater community.  The evening will comprise of a video presentation of the simulated car crash and the mock student memorial assembly, and featured speakers that addressed the students.  Questions will be taken from the audience.

PHS and MHS’ Every 15 Minutes program challenges the students to think about drinking, driving, personal safety, making mature decisions and the impact that their decisions will have on their family and friends.  Every 15 Minutes is an award-winning program sponsored by the California Highway Patrol. Alcohol is the leading cause of fatalities in motor vehicle collisions.  The dangers of drinking and driving can not be stressed enough as Piedmont teenagers continue to drink and drive as evidenced by the results of the recently released “Healthy Kids Survey.”  Administered last spring, the survey showed that 48% of responding PHS and MHS juniors had driven a car when they had been drinking alcohol or had been in a car driven by a friend when he/she had been drinking.

The PUSD Wellness Center, which provided counseling for students during the Every 15 Minute program, will ask for a "free-will" donation to support ongoing services and programming.
