Everyone's Squawking About Piedmont High's 48th Annual Bird Calling Contest

In addition to bragging rights, the top three finishers in the May 10 competition will be heading to New York where they have once again been invited to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman.

As reliably as the swallows return to San Juan Capistrano, a new generation of Piedmont students is busily preparing to compete in Piedmont High School’s annual bird calling competition.

The contest has been held every year since 1963, becoming one of Piedmont’s most beloved events in a city known for tradition.

Equal parts ornithology, drama and humor, the contest makes a delightful evening of light-hearted family entertainment.

In addition to bragging rights, the top three finishers in the competition will be heading to New York where they have once again been invited to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman.

This year’s contest will take place on Friday, May 10, at 7 p.m. in the Alan Harvey Theater, located on the Piedmont High School campus (800 Magnolia Ave.).

Tickets for general admission are $10 adults and $8 for K-12 students and seniors over the age of 65. 

Alleviate the need to arrive early to get a good seat by purchasing Reserved Seating for $15.
