Kevin Anderson Named 'Coach of the Week'

Piedmont High School's head football coach has been selected as the Oakland Raiders' "High School Coach of the Week."

Kevin Anderson, head football coach at Piedmont High School, has been named as the Oakland Raiders' "High School Coach of the Week," team officials announced Tuesday.

As part of the recognition, the Raiders and the NFL Youth Football Fund will make a $1,000 donation to the PHS football program.

Anderson will receive a a certificate signed by Oakland Raiders Head Coach Dennis Allen, and an Oakland Raiders “Coach of the Week” cap, a team spokesman said.

The program is designed to honor coaches who have created successful programs for teams and players both on and off of the playing field, said Anthony Mayo, community and youth initiatives coordinator with the Raiders.

Anderson grew up in Oakland, attended Saint Mary's High School in Berkeley and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Tennessee State University, where he played on the football team. He was named a Junior College All-American while playing for Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill.
