Piedmont Schools' Truancy Rate Well Below State Average

Absenteeism that plagues other districts in the East Bay is not a serious problem in Piedmont.

Less than 5 percent of Piedmont public school students were reported as truant during the past school year, according to information released by the state superintendent's office.

The district's 4.5 percent rate is well below both the state and the county average.

Truancy is defined as any student who misses 30 minutes or more of class time without a valid excuse at least three times in one school year.

The highest rate in the district was found at which recorded a 17.4 percent rate.

Piedmont High was listed at 6 percent and other schools were below that level.
