State Releases New Numbers on Suspensions in Piedmont Schools

Illicit drugs and violence account for the majority of the offenses leading to out-of-school suspensions in PUSD.

Last week, the California Department of Education released numbers showing that school administrators statewide suspended one out of 20 students during the 2011-12 school year.

With 37 suspensions in a district with 2,500 students, Piedmont Unified's suspension rate in 2011-12 was 1.4 compared to the county average of 5.5. There were 18 suspensions at Piedmont High School, 12 suspensions at Piedmont Middle School and seven suspensions at Millennium High Alternative.
