Teachers' Contract Changes on Wednesday's School Board Agenda

Salaries would remain at 2008-2009 levels, but teachers would get "some relief" from paying for all increases in health and dental benefits.

Changes to the contract between the Piedmont Unified School District and the Association of Piedmont Teachers (APT) are scheduled to come before the district's Board of Education Wednesday.

APT members were scheduled to vote on the changes last week (June 5-7), and details of the agreement will be posted on the PUSD website sometime today (Tuesday), according to a report from PUSD Superintendent Constance Hubbard.

Teachers' salaries remain unchanged, at levels in effect since the 2008-2009 academic year, but APT members would get "some relief for employee contributions toward the increased costs of benefits that have taken place over the past three years" under the new agreement, Hubbard's report says.

"Since the defined District contribution toward benefits was set three years ago, all increases in health and dental benefits have been borne by the employees, which resulted in the District saving many programs and reducing need for layoffs," it says.

Among other items on Wednesday's agenda:

—Recognition of PuSD certificated and classified staff members who are retiring this year. The retirees are Christine Alpers, Pam Brandau, Jeanne Donovan, Shami Edun, Leslie Flegel, Don James, Rich Kitchens, Janet Labberton, Jan Lewis, Harlan Mohagen, Nancy Parker, and Susan Pinarcik.

The complete agenda for Wednesday's meeting and related staff reports are available on the PUSD website here.

The board meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, in the City Hall council chambers, 120 Vista Ave.
