Beach Play Field

Flag as Inappropriate

Beach Play Field is a park in three parts: a playground, a pair of tennis courts and an athletic field.

The playground, complete with see-saw, slide, and enough sand to build an entire make-believe kingdom, is well suited for the littlest of kids. Parents and caretakers can keep an eye on toddlers from the shaded picnic tables at the far end of the sand lot. A pathway around Beach Elementary's garden leads to the schoolyard, which becomes an extension of the playground during non-school hours when anyone can play on the tire swing or race tricycles on the pavement.

The two tennis courts are among the 10 maintained by Piedmont's Recreation Department. Residents with a yearly tennis decal have priority and can reserve a court by visiting the Rec Department or calling 510-420-3070.

The artificial turf field is used frequently by Piedmont youth soccer and baseball teams for practice and games. The field is closed to the public on school days from 9am - 3pm and when it's being used by Rec Department programs. On Sundays, though, it's off-limits to organized groups (defined as 12 or more people, age 21 or older), and that's when informal touch football and Ultimate Frisbie games are played here.

Pets are permitted, but must be leashed. Dogs aren't allowed on the playground.
