<p>Chef and owner Gregoire Jacquet opened Gregoire in Berkeley eight years ago, seeking to transform the culture of take-out food by opening the first gourmet take-out restaurant. The tiny outlet just off of Shattuck Avenue was a smashing success and shortly thereafter he opened a second, slightly larger establishment on Piedmont Avenue. </p>
<p>Since his "restaurants" are designed for take-out and not for dining in, there is only a small amount of counterspace and stools, mostly for waiting for one's order to be fulfilled. Intrepid (and hungry) diners can eat at the small counters if space is available. Gregoire's menu changes frequently but this eatery is most well-known for its delicious potato puffs and marinated flank steak with lime butter. This brings take-out food to a whole other level.</p>
