Mulberry's Market

Mulberry's Market might as well be the center of the universe in Piedmont. Part sweet shop, part coffeehouse, part gourmet grocery, and the only retail establishment in the civic center, Mulberry's can draw a local crowd any time of day. Neighbors young and old meet up here often by plan or serendipity and compare notes about what's happening around town.

Opened in 2007 by Piedmonters Chad Olcott and Laura Pochop, who had a vision for a "third place" in their community, the market's offerings have a distinctly local flavor. There's Fenton's ice cream in the freezer, Peet's coffee is brewed at the expresso bar and Virginia's Live a Little caters the to-go items in the deli case. Sandwiches on the lunch menu are named after hometown heroes who helped the market get up and running.

Mulberry's has become a hometown hero in its own right, not only by providing a place for the community to gather, but by making donations to dozens of in-town causes each year.
