<p>The Public Works Department's 16 full-time staffers working in four divisions keep Piedmont looking like Piedmont. The Building Division goes over plans, conducts inspections, and issues permits for construction. The Planning Division reviews designs to make sure projects keep within Piedmont's architectural heritage and residential character. The Building and Planning desk in the front of City Hall is often abuzz with the business of housing records searches and application filings. The Building and Planning desk is also your first stop if you're planning a garage sale or you're wondering when the street sweeper is coming. Meanwhile, the Parks Division keeps up Piedmont's parks and landscaped areas with the support of the Piedmont Beautification Foundation and the Piedmont Garden Club. The Maintenance Division handles the operation and maintenance of the city's infrastructure. The maintenance is the place to call in case of issues affecting city roads, sewers, water lines, and trees; after business hours, residents should call police dispatch to report problems needing immediate attention.</p>
