Bob Melvin is the best thing to happen to the A's in MANY years! Love him and the team! HowRead More appropriate it is that the team's "Root Beer Float Day" every year benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation! Most important of all: KEEP THE A'S IN OAKLAND!!!

Rick Eymer made a "bush league" grammatical error that should have been caught. SeeRead More paragraph 2: "Since signing a professional contract with the Detroit Tigers in 1981, Melvin HAS RODE a roller coaster of success and failure." Even a sports reporter should know better than this.....

I wouldn't pay a dime to see the Raiders next season or any time. I still haven't forgiven eitherRead More the Raiders or the City Council that bought off on it for that "deal" on the stadium - on which the city of Oakland is still paying interest.
Mike Martin February 14, 2013 at 03:34 pm
The problem with Raiders games are the fans are rough, rude, usually drinking, and it's not a familyRead More friendly event. I understand that the Black Hole has this reputation and the team certainly doesn't want to alienate these die-hard fans. But perhaps the upper deck (where these cheap seats are) could be turned into a more family friendly zone. Games for kids on the plazas behind/under the seats, food offerings that have more kid-friendly variety like pizza, pb&j, milk, and then a strict two-beer limit or something like that. The Raiders have an opportunity to build not only more fans who have less money, but fans who could now afford to bring the kids too and therefore build the next generation of fans.

I agree with Mike Martin. The Raiders seem to think the community owes the something vs. the RaidersRead More reaching out to the community. They have turned a blind eye to the rude and aggressive behavior of many of their fans. We used to go to all of the home games, but stopped, once my kids reached an age where they understood what the words meant, that were being used by a lot of fans there. The Raiders need to get rid of the "Commitment to Excellence: theme and work on simply being decent.

It's is VERY hard to get into the Super Bowl in the first place. So the idea that the 49ers areRead More going to definitely get back there next year is wishful thinking at this point. It's unlikely, but I hope they do!
Palomar Parkman February 5, 2013 at 12:39 pm
The game was very entertaining for fans of both teams. That is why you watch. The 49ers played likeRead More a young team. Flashes of brilliance and moments of stupidity. The non-calls by the refs changed the ebb and flow. Their performance was pathetic and that is supposed to be the 'best' ref crew the NFL has to offer. Bad calls and non-calls never even out. I expect to see the game played by the rules. I am not sure what the ultimate outcome would have been if it was properly officiated but it most definitely would not have been the same game I watched. What a disgraceful display by the NFL on their biggest stage.

Palomar, Well said comment! There should have been an early pass-interference call on the 49ers asRead More well. If the refs had been making calls in the early game, players would have had to play by the rules throughout. Instead they let there be numerous late whistles and late hits (where one guy had the runner stopped with a tackle and then other guys were allowed to hit him--very physically dangerous and with game-changing possibilities of injuries and fumbles) and also over aggressive shoving/fighting after the point (mostly started by the Ravens). I thought the officiating was poor and changed the nature of the game. Wasn't this almost the fewest penalty calls that these teams have EVER had? (I'd like to hear those statistics.) Did these teams change that much from their previous season play that they now weren't doing penalties? I doubt it.

Thanks Kristofer. I have feeling this will be a really good Super Bowl. The key is for the playersRead More of both teams not to get caught up in all the hoopla. A line from one of my favorite country songs "Come From the Heart" sums up what's needed: "You gotta dance like nobody's watching." Even if you there are billions. And I think the 49ers will do that enough to win.

My wish is that some (ok, a lot) of the commercialization be taken out of the superbowl. It can beRead More sickening. Too many time outs; long ones that can mess up momentum. I am very impressed with Jim Harbaugh's coaching. With the exception of the Seattle game, he was pretty awesome this year.
Albert Rubio January 29, 2013 at 04:03 am
The NFL is a business after all.

Tantrum? Hardly. Professional sports...that's all it is. I saw a Pro Basketball coach throw aRead More folding chair across the floor one night. Now, that was a tantrum! FUN game to watch.
norfitz January 21, 2013 at 02:42 pm
Harbaugh's tantrum was so Yosemite Sam. I hope to see a clip with audio added, "Rackin'Read More Frackin' Bladder Spattin' Nagger Trap...."
