The Vessel Gallery is a two-story, 5,000-sqaure-foot exhibition space for local artists throughout the San Francisco BayMore area. This gallery, originally built in 1906 as a horse livery, hosts a range of exhibitions, and also displays work by international artists. Various art forms are available, including sculpture, installation art, painting and artisan jewelry. There is also an urban rooftop garden and the space is available to rent for private events.

The Lakeview Branch of the Oakland Public Library was founded in the 1920's on Grand Ave., and it moved to its locationMore on El Embarcadero in 1949. This is a small library with a lot of activity. There are several programs and classes on a regular basis, such as a chess tournament, monthly art exhibits, weekly story time for children, knitting classes, book clubs and more. The library offers a Paws to Read program, where children read out loud to trained, therapeutic dogs. There is a parking lot in the back that requires a free permit issued by the library to card holders only. The library also offers free Wi-Fi.
