The Lakeview Branch of the Oakland Public Library was founded in the 1920's on Grand Ave., and it moved to its locationMore on El Embarcadero in 1949. This is a small library with a lot of activity. There are several programs and classes on a regular basis, such as a chess tournament, monthly art exhibits, weekly story time for children, knitting classes, book clubs and more. The library offers a Paws to Read program, where children read out loud to trained, therapeutic dogs. There is a parking lot in the back that requires a free permit issued by the library to card holders only. The library also offers free Wi-Fi.
